York County is a county in the United States of Pennsylvania. The population of the county was 381751 as per the 2000 census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 424583, It is the eighth largest in terms of population. The county encompasses an area of 910.25 sq mi (2357.54 kmē ), of which, 904.45 square miles (2342.51 kmē) of it is land and 5.8 square miles (15.02 kmē) of it is water, making it the 14th largest by size in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 381751 people, 148219 households, and 105486 families living in the county. The population density was 422.1 people per square mile (162.97/kmē), making it the 13th most densely populated county in Pennsylvania. There were 156720 housing units at an average density of 173.3 per square mile (66.91/kmē). The average household size was 2.52 people, and the average family size was 2.98 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.6% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 424583, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 92.04% White, 5.42% Black or African American, 0.22% American Indian, 1.17% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.11% from two or more races.
