According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 576.02 square miles (1491.88 kmē), of which, 575.66 square miles (1490.95 kmē) of it is land and 0.36 square miles (0.93 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 48th largest by total area in Nebraska.
