As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 142348, It is most populous county in Montana. The county has a total area of 2649.05 sq mi (6861.01 square kilometre), of which, 2635.15 square miles (6825.01 square kilometre) of it is land and 13.9 square miles (36 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 23rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Montana.
