Wyoming County is one of the 55 county of West Virginia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 25708 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 23534, It is the 28th largest county by population in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The county has a total area of 501.82 sq mi (1299.71 kmē), of which, 500.88 square miles (1297.27 kmē) of it is land and 0.94 square miles (2.43 kmē) of it is water, making it West Virginia's 17th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 25708 people, 10454 households, and 7705 families residing in the county. The population density was 51.3 people per square mile (19.81/kmē), giving it the 27th most densely populated county among the West Virginia. There were 11698 housing units at an average density of 23.4 per square mile (9.03/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 people, and the average family size was 2.89 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.4% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 107.3 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 23534, The racial makeup of the county was 98.18% White, 0.93% Black or African American, 0.14% American Indian, 0.12% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.63% from two or more races.
