Worcester County is a one of the county from Maryland's 24 counties and independent city, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 46543 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 49274, It is the 17th largest in terms of population. The county comprises an area of 694.73 sq mi (1799.34 sq km), of which, 473.24 square miles (1225.69 sq km) of it is land and 221.49 square miles (573.66 sq km) of it is water, making it Maryland's third largest county by total area. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Maryland.

As of the census of 2000, there were 46543 people, 19694 households, and 13278 families residing in the county. The population density was 98.4 people per square mile (37.99/kmē), it is the sixth least populated county in terms of population density. There were 47360 housing units at an average density of 100.1 per square mile (38.65/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 people, and the average family size was 2.79 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 20.5% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 20.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 108.3 females. Its population was estimated at 49274 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 83.43% White, 14.4% Black or African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.96% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.99% from two or more races.
