It is the 27th largest by population in the U.S. state of Virginia. The census designated place has a total area of 10.79 miē (27.95 kmē), of which, 10.48 square miles (27.14 kmē) of it is land and 0.31 square miles (0.8 kmē) of it is water, it is the 55th largest by area in the U.S. state of Virginia.
