Wood County is a one of the county from Texas's 254 counties, located in Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Wood County is home to 36752 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 42461, giving it the 71st largest population among Texas's county. It has total area of 695.8 sq mi (1802.11 square kilometre), of which, 650.22 square miles (1684.06 square kilometre) of it is land and 45.58 square miles (118.05 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 31st smallest by area in the U.S. state of Texas.

The population density was 56.5 people per square mile (21.81/kmē), giving it the 62nd most densely populated county among the Texas. There were 17939 housing units at an average density of 27.6 per square mile (10.66/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.85. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 21.8% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.1 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 42461, The racial makeup of the county was 92.25% White, 6.05% Black or African American, 0.57% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.81% from two or more races.
