Wirt County, West Virginia is a county of the United States of West Virginia. In 2000, county's population was 5873 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 5757, It is the least populous county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is spread over 234.83 sq mi (608.21 sq km), of which, 232.99 square miles (603.44 sq km ) of it is land and 1.85 square miles (4.79 sq km) of it is water, it is the eighth smallest by area in the U.S. state of West Virginia.

The population density was 25.2 people per square mile (9.73/kmē), it is tenth least densely populated county in West Virginia. There were 3266 housing units at an average density of 14 per square mile (5.41/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the Wirt County, 25.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.6% were 18 to 24, 29.6% were 25 to 44, 24.4% were 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97 males.
