Winston County is a United States county located in the United States of Mississippi. The population of county in 2000 stood at 20160 as per the Census data. Its population was estimated at 19575 in July 2008, It is Mississippi's 51st most populous county. It has total area of 610.11 square miles (1580.18 square kilometre), of which, 606.97 square miles (1572.05 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.14 square miles (8.13 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 34th largest by total area in Mississippi.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 20160 people, 7578 households, and 5473 families residing in the county. The population density was 33.2 people per square mile (12.82/kmē), it is 51st most densely populated county in Mississippi. There were 8472 housing units at an average density of 14 per square mile (5.41/kmē). The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.09. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.8% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113.2 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 19575, The racial makeup of the county was 10540 White, 8751 Black or African American, 158 American Indian, 23 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 103 from two or more races.
