Winooski City is one of the city of Chittenden County, Vermont, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. It is home to over 6561 people (2000 census). In July 2008, its estimated population was 6429, giving it the tenth largest population among Vermont. The city spans an area of 1.51 square miles (3.91 kmē), of which, 1.43 square miles (3.7 kmē) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 kmē) of it is water, making it the 37th largest by size in Vermont. It is ranks 13 in the size of its inland waterways in Vermont.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6561 residents, 2944 households, and 1467 families in the city. The population density was 4586.1 people per square mile (1770.7/kmē), it is the most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Vermont. There were 3015 housing units at an average density of 2108.4 per square mile (814.06/kmē). The average household size was 2.21 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons.
