Windham County is a county located in Vermont, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. The county has a population of 44216 as per the 2000 census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 43176, It is sixth most populous county in Vermont. The county extends throughout a territory of 798.12 miē (2067.12 kmē ), of which, 788.72 square miles (2042.78 kmē) of it is land and 9.4 square miles (24.35 kmē) of it is water, makes it the fourth largest by total area in Vermont. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Vermont.

The population density was 56.1 people per square mile (21.66/kmē), making its Vermont's seventh most densely populated county. There were 27039 housing units at an average density of 34.3 per square mile (13.24/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 23.5% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 14% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 43176, The racial makeup of the county was 96.63% White, 0.8% Black or African American, 0.25% American Indian, 0.93% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.35% from two or more races.
