Wilmington City is a one of the New Hanover County, North Carolina, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 75838 people (2000 census). Its population was estimated at 100192 in July 2008, making it the ninth most populous in North Carolina. It covers total area of 41.48 square miles (107.43 sq km), of which, 41 square miles (106.19 sq km) of it is land and 0.48 square miles (1.24 sq km) of it is water, making it North Carolina's 12th largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 75838 residents, 34359 households, and 17360 families in the city. The population density was 1849.8 people per square mile (714.21/kmē), making its North Carolina's 34th most densely populated city. There were 38678 housing units at an average density of 943.4 per square mile (364.25/kmē). The average household size was 2.1 people, and the average family size was 2.77 people. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 18.4% under the age of 18, 17.2% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85 males. The median age is 34.1 years, the median age of male residents at 32 and the median age of female residents at 36.1. The racial makeup of the city was 53516 White, 19579 Black or African American, 266 American Indian, 682 Asian, 67 Native Hawaiian, 860 from two or more races and 868 Ohter races.
