Willmar City is a United States city located in the Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 18351 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 17774, It is the 51st largest by population in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The city comprises an area of 13.6 mi˛ (35.22 square kilometre), of which, 11.84 square miles (30.67 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.76 square miles (4.56 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 80th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 18351 people, 7302 households, and 4462 families living in the city. The population density was 1549.9 people per square mile (598.42/km˛), giving it the 132nd most densely populated city among the Minnesota. There were 7789 housing units at an average density of 657.9 per square mile (254.02/km˛). The average household size was 2.44 people, and the average family size was 3.08 people. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 26.2% under the age of 18, 12% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 19% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.
