As per the 2000 census, census designated place has a population of 15823 inhabitants. It is Connecticut's 32nd largest by population . It has total area of 4.49 square miles (11.63 sq km), of which, 4.39 square miles (11.37 sq km) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 sq km) of it is water, making it the 55th largest by size in Connecticut.
