Williamsburg County is a United States county located in the United States of South Carolina. The population of the county was 37217 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 35090, giving it the 28th largest population among South Carolina's county. It has total area of 936.92 mi˛ (2426.61 square kilometre), of which, 933.9 square miles (2418.79 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.02 square miles (7.82 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the eighth largest by area in the U.S. state of South Carolina.

The population density was 39.9 people per square mile (15.41/km˛), it is the seventh least populated county in terms of population density. There were 15552 housing units at an average density of 16.7 per square mile (6.45/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.22 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 28.6% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 35090, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 31.82% White, 67.04% Black or African American, 0.27% American Indian, 0.25% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.61% from two or more races.
