Wilburton City is one of the city of Latimer County, Oklahoma, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 2972 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 2893, It is the 106th most populous in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It covers total area of 2.99 sq mi (7.74 sq km), of which, 2.98 square miles (7.72 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, it is the 242nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Oklahoma.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2972 people, 1004 households, and 675 families residing in the city. The population density was 997.1 people per square mile (384.98/kmē), making it the 191st most densely populated city in Oklahoma. There were 1200 housing units at an average density of 402.7 per square mile (155.48/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.07. In the city the population was spread out, with 24.4% under the age of 18, 20.5% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 16.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 85.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.7 males. The median age was 30.3 years, The median age of males was 27.3 years, for females the median age was 32.6 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 2227 White, 40 Black or African American, 503 American Indian, 9 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 166 from two or more races and 26 Ohter races.
