Whitman County, Washington is a county located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 40740 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 41664, It is the 23rd most populous county in the U.S. state of Washington. It has total area of 2177.6 square miles (5639.96 sq km), of which, 2159.37 square miles (5592.74 sq km) of it is land and 18.23 square miles (47.22 sq km) of it is water, making it Washington's 16th largest county by total area.

Age range in the county was well distributed with 18.1% under the age of 18, 32.6% from 18 to 24, 24% from 25 to 44, 16% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.9 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 41664, The racial makeup of the county was 36070 White, 933 Black or African American, 356 American Indian, 3064 Asian, 137 Native Hawaiian, and 1104 from two or more races.
