White County is a United States county located in the United States of Illinois. In 2000, the population was 15371. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 14671, making it Illinois's 26th smallest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 501.7 square miles (1299.4 square kilometre), of which, 494.87 square miles (1281.71 square kilometre) of it is land and 6.83 square miles (17.69 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Illinois's 56th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 15371 people in the county, organized into 6534 households, and 4376 families living in the county. The population density was 31.1 people per square mile (12.01/kmē), it is Illinois's 24th least densely populated county. There were 7393 housing units at an average density of 14.9 per square mile (5.75/kmē). The average household size was 2.29 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 21.5% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 20.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.5 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 14671, The racial makeup of the county was 14328 White, 103 Black or African American, 53 American Indian, 27 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 157 from two or more races.
