Whatcom County is a county in the United States of Washington. The population of the county was 166814 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 196529, It is ninth most populous county in Washington. It covers total area of 2503.55 square miles (6484.16 square kilometre), of which, 2119.53 square miles (5489.56 square kilometre) of it is land and 384.02 square miles (994.61 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Washington's seventh largest county by total area. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Washington.

As of the census of 2000, there were 166814 people, 64446 households, and 41094 families living in the county. The population density was 78.7 people per square mile (30.39/kmē), making its Washington's 12th most densely populated county. There were 73893 housing units at an average density of 34.9 per square mile (13.47/kmē). The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.03. In the county Population was distributed with 24.1% under the age of 18, 14.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 196529, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 89.89% White, 1.06% Black or African American, 2.87% American Indian, 3.65% Asian, 0.17% Native Hawaiian, and 2.36% from two or more races.
