Westwego City is a city located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 10763 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 10098, making it the 48th most populous in Louisiana. It has total area of 3.57 mi˛ (9.25 sq km), of which, 3.19 square miles (8.26 sq km) of it is land and 0.38 square miles (0.98 sq km) of it is water, it is the 167th largest by area in the U.S. state of Louisiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10763 people in the city, organized into 400 households, and 290 families residing in the city. The population density was 3378 people per square mile (1304.25/km˛), it is Louisiana's 16th most densely populated city. There were 4521 housing units at an average density of 1417.2 per square mile (547.18/km˛). The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.1. In the Westwego City, 27.5% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.9% were 18 to 24, 29.9% were 25 to 44, 21.2% were 45 to 64, and 12.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.6 males. The median age was 34.7 years, the median age of male residents at 33.4 and the median age of female residents at 35.6. The racial makeup of the city was 8089 White, 2155 Black or African American, 101 American Indian, 169 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 151 from two or more races and 98 Ohter races.
