Westchester County is one of the 62 county of New York, located towards the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 923459 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 953943, making it the seventh most populous county in New York. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 500.08 mi˛ (1295.2 square kilometre), of which, 432.82 square miles (1121 square kilometre) of it is land and 67.26 square miles (174.2 square kilometre) of it is water, making it New York's 17th smallest county by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 923459 residents, 337142 households, and 235201 families in the county. The population density was 2133.6 people per square mile (823.79/km˛), making its New York's seventh most densely populated county. There were 349445 housing units at an average density of 807.4 per square mile (311.74/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.67 persons, and the average family size was 3.21 persons. In the county Age distribution was 25% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 14% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 109.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 114.6 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 953943, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 739409 White, 139415 Black or African American, 3867 American Indian, 56139 Asian, 1090 Native Hawaiian, and 14023 from two or more races.

In 2000, 244926 pupils and students, of which 49.16% are male and 50.84% are female, 26.52% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 8.7% nursery or pri school, 5.83% kindergarten, 43.6% elementary school, 20.29% high school and 21.58% College graduate school.
