West Virginia, is a state located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, state's population was 1808344 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 1814468, It is the 14th smallest by population in the U.S. state of America. It has total area of 24229.76 sq mi (62754.79 square kilometre), of which, 24077.73 square miles (62361.03 square kilometre) of it is land and 152.03 square miles (393.76 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the tenth smallest by area in the U.S. state of America.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1808344 people in the state, organized into 736481 households, and 504055 families living in the state. The population density was 75.1 people per square mile (29/kmē), it is United States's 29th most densely populated state. There were 844623 housing units at an average density of 35.1 per square mile (13.55/kmē). The average household size was 2.4 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the state the population was spread out, with 22.3% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.1 females. The median age of the state's population was 38.9 years, The median age of males was 37.5 years, for females the median age was 40.2 years. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1808344, The racial makeup of the state was 95.05% White, 3.16% Black or African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.52% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, 0.87% from two or more races and 0.17% Other races.
