As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1808344, The racial makeup of the state was 95.05% White, 3.16% Black or African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.52% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, 0.87% from two or more races and 0.17% Other races.
