West Carroll Parish, Louisiana


West Carroll Parish is one of the 64 parish of Louisiana, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The parish has a population of 12314 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 11495 in July 2008, giving it the eighth smallest population among Louisiana's parish. It covers total area of 360.32 mi˛ (933.22 sq km), of which, 359.4 square miles (930.84 sq km) of it is land and 0.92 square miles (2.38 sq km) of it is water, makes it the seventh smallest by total area in Louisiana.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 12314 people, 4458 households, and 3250 families living in the parish. The population density was 34.3 people per square mile (13.24/km˛), giving it the 41st most densely populated parish among the Louisiana. There were 4980 housing units at an average density of 13.9 per square mile (5.37/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.59 persons, and the average family size was 3.09 persons. The population's age distribution was 25.6% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 11495, The racial makeup of the parish was 80.2% White, 18.78% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.43% from two or more races.
