Wells County is a county located in the United States of North Dakota. As of 2000 the population was 5102. Its population was estimated at 4191 in July 2008, It is the 26th largest in terms of population. The county has a total area of 1290.62 sq mi (3342.69 kmē), of which, 1271.28 square miles (3292.6 kmē) of it is land and 19.34 square miles (50.09 kmē) of it is water, making it North Dakota's 25th largest county by total area.

For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 4191, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 4137 White, 7 Black or African American, 17 American Indian, 16 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 14 from two or more races.
