The county encompasses an area of 512.19 mi˛ (1326.57 sq km ), of which, 505.79 square miles (1309.99 sq km) of it is land and 6.4 square miles (16.58 sq km) of it is water, making it the 15th largest by size in West Virginia. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in West Virginia.
