Wayne County is a county located in the United States of Michigan. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 2061162 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 1949929, It is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is spread over 672.2 miē (1740.99 kmē), of which, 614.15 square miles (1590.64 kmē ) of it is land and 58.05 square miles (150.35 kmē) of it is water, it is the 48th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2061162 people in the county, organized into 768440 households, and 511717 families living in the county. The population density was 3356.1 people per square mile (1295.8/kmē), making it the most densely populated county in Michigan. There were 826145 housing units at an average density of 1345.2 per square mile (519.38/kmē). The average household size was 2.64 people, and the average family size was 3.26 people. In the county Age distribution was 28% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.1 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 1949929, The racial makeup of the county was 54.78% White, 40.89% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 2.43% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.47% from two or more races.
