Wayne County is a county in the United States of Iowa. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 6730 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 6253, making it the fourth least populous county in Iowa. It covers total area of 527.08 sq mi (1365.13 square kilometre), of which, 525.6 square miles (1361.3 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.48 square miles (3.83 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 67th largest by total area in Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6730 residents, 2821 households, and 1919 families in the county. The population density was 12.8 people per square mile (4.94/kmē), giving it the third least densely populated county among the Iowa. There were 3357 housing units at an average density of 6.4 per square mile (2.47/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 people, and the average family size was 2.89 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.9% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 23.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 109.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 110.2 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 6253, The racial makeup of the county was 6162 White, 4 Black or African American, 9 American Indian, 20 Asian, 12 Native Hawaiian, and 46 from two or more races.
