Waukegan City is a city located in Lake County, Illinois, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. Waukegan City had an official population of 87901 in 2000. The July 2008 population estimate is 90788, It is ninth most populous in Illinois. The city has a total area of 23.09 sq mi (59.8 sq km), of which, 23.01 square miles (59.6 sq km) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 12th largest by total area among Illinois.
