Watonwan County is a county in the United States of Minnesota. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 11876 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 10860, making it Minnesota's 22nd smallest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 439.92 sq mi (1139.39 sq km), of which, 434.51 square miles (1125.38 sq km) of it is land and 5.4 square miles (13.99 sq km) of it is water, making it the tenth smallest by size in Minnesota.

The population density was 27.3 people per square mile (10.54/kmē), it would be the 44th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. There were 5036 housing units at an average density of 11.6 per square mile (4.48/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 people, and the average family size was 3.1 people. In the county Age distribution was 27.6% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 105.9 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 10860, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.13% White, 0.64% Black or African American, 0.49% American Indian, 1.03% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.69% from two or more races.
