In July 2008, its estimated population was 1756, making it the 26th most populous in Vermont. The city comprises an area of 1.81 mi˛ (4.69 sq km), of which, 1.78 square miles (4.61 sq km) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 sq km) of it is water, it is the 32nd largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks 19 in the size of its inland waterways in Vermont.
