Watauga City is a city located in Carter and Washington counties, Tennessee, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 403 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 425, It is 49th least populous in Tennessee. Its area is just over 0.75 square miles (1.94 kmē), of which, 0.73 square miles (1.89 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, making it Tennessee's 28th smallest by total area.

The population density was 551.5 people per square mile (212.94/kmē), it is 192nd most densely populated city in Tennessee.
