Washtenaw County is a county located in Michigan, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. It is home to over 322895 people (2000 census). In July 2008, its estimated population was 347376, making it Michigan's sixth largest county. It has total area of 722.53 square miles (1871.34 kmē), of which, 709.94 square miles (1838.74 kmē) of it is land and 12.59 square miles (32.61 kmē) of it is water, it is the 43rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 322895 people, 125327 households, and 73690 families residing in the county. The population density was 454.8 people per square mile (175.6/kmē), it is Michigan's seventh most densely populated county. There were 131069 housing units at an average density of 184.6 per square mile (71.27/kmē). The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.02. In the county Population was distributed with 22.1% under the age of 18, 17.1% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males. Its population was estimated at 347376 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 76.88% White, 12.28% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 8.21% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 2.21% from two or more races.
