Washoe County is a United States county located in the United States of Nevada. It is home to over 339486 people (2000 census). The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 410443, giving it the second largest population among Nevada's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6551.32 sq mi (16967.84 kmē), of which, 6342.27 square miles (16426.4 kmē) of it is land and 209.05 square miles (541.44 kmē) of it is water, it is the seventh largest by area in the U.S. state of Nevada. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Nevada.

The population density was 53.5 people per square mile (20.66/kmē), it is the fourth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Nevada. There were 143908 housing units at an average density of 22.7 per square mile (8.76/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.53 persons, and the average family size was 3.09 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 24.9% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 31% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 410443, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 358932 White, 10873 Black or African American, 8586 American Indian, 20349 Asian, 2079 Native Hawaiian, and 9624 from two or more races.
