Washington County is a county in the United States of Rhode Island. The population of county in 2000 stood at 123546 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 126264, making it the third most populous county in Rhode Island. It covers total area of 562.77 mi˛ (1457.57 square kilometre), of which, 332.75 square miles (861.82 square kilometre) of it is land and 230.02 square miles (595.75 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the largest by area in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Rhode Island.

As of the census of 2000, there were 123546 people in the county, organized into 46907 households, and 32020 families living in the county. The population density was 371.3 people per square mile (143.36/km˛), it is Rhode Island's least densely populated county. There were 56816 housing units at an average density of 170.7 per square mile (65.91/km˛). The average household size was 2.52 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.4% under the age of 18, 11.2% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.6 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 126264, The racial makeup of the county was 94.6% White, 1.23% Black or African American, 0.95% American Indian, 1.87% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 1.33% from two or more races.
