Washington County is one of the 82 county of Mississippi, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. Washington County had an official population of 62977 in 2000. Its population was estimated at 55079 in July 2008, giving it the 13th largest population among Mississippi's county. The county has a total area of 761.26 miē (1971.65 kmē), of which, 723.99 square miles (1875.13 kmē) of it is land and 37.27 square miles (96.53 kmē) of it is water, it is the 13th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Mississippi.
