Washington County, Minnesota is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 201130 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 229173 in July 2008, giving it the fifth largest population among Minnesota's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 423.16 miē (1095.98 kmē), of which, 391.7 square miles (1014.5 kmē) of it is land and 31.46 square miles (81.48 kmē) of it is water, making it Minnesota's fifth smallest county by total area.

The population density was 513.5 people per square mile (198.26/kmē), giving it the fifth most densely populated county among the Minnesota. There were 73635 housing units at an average density of 188 per square mile (72.59/kmē). The average household size was 2.77 persons, and the average family size was 3.19 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 29.4% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 229173, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 89.96% White, 3.25% Black or African American, 0.49% American Indian, 4.73% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.53% from two or more races.
