Washington County, Maryland is a county of the United States of Maryland. As of 2000 the population was 131923. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 145384, It is tenth most populous county in Maryland. Its area is just over 467.55 sq mi (1210.95 sq km), of which, 458.14 square miles (1186.58 sq km) of it is land and 9.41 square miles (24.37 sq km) of it is water, it is the 15th largest by area in the U.S. state of Maryland.

As of the census of 2000, there were 131923 residents, 49726 households, and 34092 families in the county. The population density was 288 people per square mile (111.2/kmē), it is 11th most densely populated county in Maryland. There were 52972 housing units at an average density of 115.6 per square mile (44.63/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.96 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.4% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 95.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 96.2 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 145384, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 87.24% White, 9.77% Black or African American, 0.21% American Indian, 1.4% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.33% from two or more races.
