Washington County is a county in the United States of Illinois. It is home to over 15148 people (2000 census). According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 14728, It is the 27th smallest in terms of population. Its area is just over 564.12 mi˛ (1461.06 square kilometre), of which, 562.61 square miles (1457.15 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.51 square miles (3.91 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 46th largest by size in Illinois.

The population density was 26.9 people per square mile (10.39/km˛), it is Illinois's 14th least densely populated county. There were 6385 housing units at an average density of 11.3 per square mile (4.36/km˛). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.02. In the Washington County, 25.3% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.6% were 18 to 24, 27.3% were 25 to 44, 23% were 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 14728, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.98% White, 0.82% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.67% from two or more races.
