Washington County is a United States county located in the United States of Florida. The population of county in 2000 stood at 20973 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 23928, It is the 15th least populous county in the U.S. state of Florida. It has total area of 615.79 miē (1594.89 kmē), of which, 579.93 square miles (1502.01 kmē) of it is land and 35.86 square miles (92.88 kmē) of it is water, it is the 15th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Florida.

The population density was 36.2 people per square mile (13.98/kmē), giving it the 14th least densely populated county among the Florida. There were 9503 housing units at an average density of 16.4 per square mile (6.33/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.4% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 94.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 94.4 females. Its population was estimated at 23928 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 19181 White, 3728 Black or African American, 371 American Indian, 160 Asian, 14 Native Hawaiian, and 474 from two or more races.
