Washington County is a county in the United States of Arkansas. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 157715 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 195803, It is the third largest county by population in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The county spans an area of 956.01 sq mi (2476.05 sq km), of which, 949.72 square miles (2459.76 sq km) of it is land and 6.29 square miles (16.29 sq km) of it is water, makes it the fourth largest by total area in Arkansas.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 157715 people, 60151 households, and 39483 families living in the county. The population density was 166.1 people per square mile (64.13/kmē), it would be the fourth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Arkansas. There were 64330 housing units at an average density of 67.7 per square mile (26.14/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.52 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the Washington County, 25% of the population was under the age of 18, 15.3% were 18 to 24, 30.2% were 25 to 44, 19.5% were 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.7 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 195803, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 176390 White, 6834 Black or African American, 3100 American Indian, 4195 Asian, 1341 Native Hawaiian, and 3943 from two or more races.
