It is ranks 11 in the size of its inland waterways in United States.

In the state the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 100.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 103.1 females. The median age of the state's population was 35.3 years, the median age of male residents at 34.4 and the median age of female residents at 36.3.
