Washakie County is a county located in the United States of Wyoming. Washakie County had an official population of 8289 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 7821, It is the fifth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The county has a total area of 2242.75 square miles (5808.7 sq km), of which, 2240.06 square miles (5801.73 sq km) of it is land and 2.69 square miles (6.97 sq km) of it is water, makes it the fifth smallest by total area in Wyoming.

In the county the population was distributed as follows: 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.3 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 7821, The racial makeup of the county was 96.57% White, 0.14% Black or African American, 0.88% American Indian, 0.83% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 1.55% from two or more races.
