The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 57656, It is 26th most populous county in Indiana. The county has a total area of 390.86 sq mi (1012.32 square kilometre), of which, 384.07 square miles (994.74 square kilometre) of it is land and 6.79 square miles (17.59 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Indiana's 54th largest county by total area.
