Ward County is a United States county located in the United States of North Dakota. The county has a population of 58795 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 55986, making it North Dakota's fourth largest county. The county encompasses an area of 2056.25 sq mi (5325.66 kmē ), of which, 2012.88 square miles (5213.34 kmē) of it is land and 43.36 square miles (112.3 kmē) of it is water, making it North Dakota's sixth largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 58795 people, 23041 households, and 15370 families living in the county. The population density was 29.2 people per square mile (11.27/kmē), making it the fourth most densely populated county in North Dakota. There were 25097 housing units at an average density of 12.5 per square mile (4.83/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.01. In the county Age distribution was 26.2% under the age of 18, 13% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 55986, The racial makeup of the county was 51647 White, 1285 Black or African American, 1531 American Indian, 445 Asian, 47 Native Hawaiian, and 1031 from two or more races.
