Walton County is one of the 67 county of Florida, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 40601. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 53837, It is the 41st largest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1238.03 square miles (3206.48 square kilometre), of which, 1057.56 square miles (2739.07 square kilometre) of it is land and 180.47 square miles (467.42 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 13th largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 40601 residents, 16548 households, and 11119 families in the county. The population density was 38.4 people per square mile (14.83/kmē), it is the 17th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 29083 housing units at an average density of 27.5 per square mile (10.62/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.83 persons. In the county Age distribution was 21.7% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 95.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 95.2 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 53837, The racial makeup of the county was 88.76% White, 7.56% Black or African American, 1.08% American Indian, 0.72% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.84% from two or more races.
