Walla Walla County, Washington is a county located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 55180 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 57788, It is the 21st largest county by population in the U.S. state of Washington. The county extends throughout a territory of 1299.25 square miles (3365.04 kmē ), of which, 1270.51 square miles (3290.61 kmē) of it is land and 28.74 square miles (74.44 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 26th largest by total area in Washington.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 55180 people, 19647 households, and 13238 families living in the county. The population density was 43.4 people per square mile (16.76/kmē), making it the 16th most densely populated county in Washington. There were 21147 housing units at an average density of 16.6 per square mile (6.41/kmē). The average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.08 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.6% under the age of 18, 13.4% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 103.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.9 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 57788, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 93.66% White, 1.77% Black or African American, 1.07% American Indian, 1.36% Asian, 0.29% Native Hawaiian, and 1.85% from two or more races.
