Wahkiakum County is one of the 39 county of Washington, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 3824. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 4133, making it Washington's third smallest county. The county spans an area of 286.69 square miles (742.52 kmē), of which, 264.24 square miles (684.38 kmē) of it is land and 22.45 square miles (58.15 kmē) of it is water, making it Washington's smallest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3824 people, 1553 households, and 1109 families residing in the county. The population density was 14.5 people per square mile (5.6/kmē), making its Washington's 12th least densely populated county. There were 1792 housing units at an average density of 6.8 per square mile (2.63/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.83 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.4% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, 30.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 4133, The racial makeup of the county was 3925 White, 10 Black or African American, 75 American Indian, 18 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 102 from two or more races.
