Wagner City is one of the city of Charles Mix County, South Dakota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 1675. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 1551, giving it the 44th largest population among South Dakota. The city encompasses an area of 2.71 square miles (7.02 kmē ), of which, 2.7 square miles (6.99 kmē) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 49th largest by total area among South Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1675 people in the city, organized into 678 households, and 407 families residing in the city. The population density was 619.4 people per square mile (239.15/kmē), it is 173rd most densely populated city in South Dakota.
