Volusia County, Florida is a county of the United States of Florida. The county has a population of 443343 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 498036, It is the 11th largest in terms of population. The county comprises an area of 1432.44 square miles (3710 kmē), of which, 1103.25 square miles (2857.4 kmē) of it is land and 329.19 square miles (852.6 kmē) of it is water, giving it the ninth largest by total area among Florida's county. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Florida.

The population density was 401.9 people per square mile (155.17/kmē), it is 14th most densely populated county in Florida. There were 211938 housing units at an average density of 192.1 per square mile (74.17/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons. In the Volusia County, 20.3% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.2% were 18 to 24, 25.3% were 25 to 44, 24.2% were 45 to 64, and 22.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 498036, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 429625 White, 52320 Black or African American, 2039 American Indian, 7540 Asian, 222 Native Hawaiian, and 6290 from two or more races.
