Vidalia City is one of the city of Toombs and Montgomery counties, Georgia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 10491 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 11355, It is the 80th largest by population in the U.S. state of Georgia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.44 mi˛ (45.17 sq km), of which, 17.33 square miles (44.88 sq km) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 sq km) of it is water, it is the 37th largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10491 people in the city, organized into 4167 households, and 2758 families residing in the city. The population density was 605.4 people per square mile (233.75/km˛), it is Georgia's 281st most densely populated city. There were 4676 housing units at an average density of 269.8 per square mile (104.17/km˛). The average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 3.06 persons. In the city Age distribution was 27.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 81.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 76.6 males. The median age of the city's population was 36.2 years, the median age of male residents at 33.7 and the median age of female residents at 38.1. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 59.61% White, 36.88% Black or African American, 0.14% American Indian, 0.89% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 0.66% from two or more races and 1.82% Other races.
